You bought out your lease — so where's the title? The transfer is the part nobody explains. Here is how it actually works, in under a minute.
Once your payoff lands, the leasing bank releases ownership — either an electronic title record or a paper title mailed out. This step alone commonly takes two to eight weeks.
Then your state's motor vehicle agency retitles the car in your name — with your lender listed as lienholder if you financed. Sales tax and title fees settle here too.
Planning to sell the car after the buyout? This wait is your bottleneck. You generally can't complete the sale until the title exists in your name — so build it into the plan.
Champion Auto Finance coordinates buyout financing with the payoff and title steps handled properly, subject to lender approval, across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Start at championautofinance dot com.
