Your lease buyout price is higher than the car is worth. That's negative equity — and it changes the smart move. Under a minute, here's the honest math.

Negative equity means the residual guessed high and the market came in low. Buying at the payoff would mean paying more than the car is worth on day one.

The usual answer: return the car. The leasing company took the depreciation risk — negative equity is their loss to absorb, not yours to adopt. That's what the lease was for.

The exceptions: heavy mileage or wear charges that rival the equity gap, or a reliable car that still beats anything you could replace it with. Compare total costs, then decide.

Champion Auto Finance will tell you honestly when a buyout doesn't make sense — and coordinate the financing when it does, subject to lender approval, across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
