The disposition fee: a few hundred dollars your leasing company charges just for taking the car back. Here is how it works, and how to make it disappear.
It's the bank's handling charge for the return: collection, inspection, transport, resale. Typically three to five hundred dollars, fixed in your contract on day one.
It stacks on top of any wear and mileage charges from the return inspection. Two separate bills that arrive together, and surprise people twice.
Buy the car instead, and there is nothing to dispose of. No disposition fee, no inspection, no wear charges. The fee only exists on the return path.
