How much car can you actually afford? Not the payment the salesperson says fits — the number your real budget says. Here it is, in under a minute.
Start with the classic guardrail: all your car costs together — payment, insurance, fuel, maintenance — staying under roughly fifteen percent of take-home pay.
Then work backwards: a comfortable monthly number at today's rates and a sensible term tells you your true price range, before you ever fall in love with a car.
And remember the payment is not the price. A longer term makes anything 'fit' monthly while costing more in total. Budget on the whole deal, not the installment.
Run your own numbers with the free calculator at championautofinance dot com — and if you're keeping a leased car, the lease buyout calculator is right next to it.
